Cooking with Love for Sister event

Saturday, August 4th, 2012

Saraswathi started the event cooking with love and when she said she was looking for someone to guest host the event- cooking with love for sister(s), I just thought of the wonderful years my sister and I had growing up and I offered to guest host the event for August.

I am sure growing up with siblings we all have beautiful memories- the fights(!!) we had, the support we shared during troubled times, the laughs, the pranks- am I correct? And for me when I visit a place or cook something it reminds me of the person in our family who likes it the most. And since my sister taught me cooking, whether it was a disaster or a success, she has no other choice but to hear my story every time. I am sure you all have someone similar like that in your life, someone who you can lean on, either a brother or sister or grandma or grandpa and if you have a sister, tell us what you would like to cook for her. That is the theme of this event. If you want to share any incidents or stories or memories attached to the recipe, share it, that would make it a great entry :)

Here are the rules:

1. Post any vegetarian recipe from starter to desserts between August 4 to August 31. I will only accept vegetarian entries for this event.

The copy cat chain

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

Yes, I have been missing from the blogging scene for sometime, reasons and recipes will follow soon :)

But now- for some flashback. I had a chance to talk to Nithu last year when I posted about my recipe pictures copied and published by kumudam snegithi without giving us the credit. I did get feedback from fellow bloggers whose recipes and pictures were copied too.

We thought this would stop but again yesterday one of bloggers we know posted about her recipe published in kumudam snegithi without giving her the credit.

That was when we thought of writing a post about it and requesting fellow bloggers to make it a chain post. If you have been one of the victims of your recipes copied by any magazine, please join in. You can link to this post and Nithu’s and write about your experience with the publishers are so perfect in plagiarism! Only when you link we will know how many are affected by this.

My original post about the recipe that was copied:

One of the leading magazines in Tamilnadu-Kumudam Snegithi(meaning Friends) had a tip about cooking Bittergourd and I felt that the picture looked quiet familiar. What do you know, after all it was “borrowed” from my blog without even asking me, and I was wondering where my copyright declaration went to which is written straight across the photo. (Issue dated August 16-31, page 58)

The original photo link from my blog is here.

Please join in! Think about it, we create, cook, take pictures, add memories and write about it and someone copying it all- Do you agree with their professional behavior?

If magazines start “borrowing” ideas from blogs

Monday, September 12th, 2011

Alright, let me be frank. I cannot speak kannada though I have been married to N for almost 5 years. So,when I was in Bangalore this summer, I got some tamil magazines to read for travel. Little did I know that I was in for a surprise.

I would have not known about this if I was still living here in the US. I felt that it was a good thing, as N keeps making fun of the photos I take and if magazines feel that the photos were good enough to publish, then obviously the quality of my photos are better that I thought, right?

What more can I say, here I am sitting and acquiring copyright protections, x, y and z’s and someone somewhere, that too a magazine does not even bother to look at it. Or may be is there a chance that two photos can look alike so much???I don’t know!!

I am not sure if mine is the first case, but I have heard many stories from fellow bloggers about plagiarism. All I can do now is take a deep breath and say-wow I do have stuff worth copying :)

A sweet addition to the table

Wishing you all a Very Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year!!

I know, I have been missing from the blogging scene for a couple of months. That’s because all my attention(I mean it), is on a sweet little bundle 😉

Yup! We welcomed our first baby, a cute little baby boy this December!

As we adjust to his schedules, dance to his tunes and cuddle him and pamper him, naturally blogging took a back seat.

I hope to return back to blogging and also share about our son Ruchir’s activities soon.

Hope you all enjoyed this holiday season and wishing you all a wonderful 2011.
